An underlying structured day care program needs an enlivened environment that supports the daily activities without being overbearing.

Various day care activities such as family play centers, creative arts, and motor skills development areas all need special consideration in their respective individual designs, both for their specific requirements as well as their relationship to each other.

How a teacher controls her/his class can be supported by the physical design if integrated early in the design process. For example, are proper sight lines considered while positioning activity areas, toilet rooms or entrances and exits?

Infant care rooms need extra special attention. Scale, intimacy and a relaxed atmosphere can provide for successful programs.

In addition color must be carefully considered not to overly stimulate nor clash with the many objects in a room. Yet color must still create a playful mood.

Safety and security are always considered foremost in any design solution.
