The Millenium started out great for Wayne Ehmann
AIA, Architect, who had just won his 7th "ARCHI" Award. This 2000 "ARCHI"
award "For Excellence in Architecture" was given out at the annual Long Island
Chapter of the American Institute of Architects' eloquent black tie awards
ceremony at
Oheka Castle.
It continued with a string of magazine and newspaper
articles and TV appearances on the restoration of Grand Central Terminal’s
exterior in which Mr. Ehmann as Chief Architect of MTA Metro North Railroad,
lead the design team of DMJM Harris and BCA and its contractor Kafka
Construction to a successful completion.
The “ARCHI” award was given for Mr. Ehmann's unique design of the MTA’s New
York
Transit
Museum's Gallery and Retail store at the revitalized Grand Central Terminal in
New York City. Citing "good use of
materials" and "interesting forms" the jury gave Mr. Ehmann one of only 11
Archi Awards awarded that year. As a sole practitioner in Sea Cliff,
practicing part time, Mr. Ehmann's achievement is that much more unique since
his competition is the usual architectural giants of
Long Island architecture.
That was the 36th celebration of recognizing and honoring the men and women
architects who have distinguished themselves by creating high quality
architectural design for or from
Long Island.
The awards praise not only Long Island architecture, but salute projects all
over the world conceived by chapter members, as well as non-AIA architects who
contributed excellence in design to the Long Island community. Mr. Ehmann calls it the “Oscars for
L.I. architects!"
In March
of 2008 Mr. Ehmann was featured on the cover of Quest magazine’s “Design
Issue” celebrating Grand Central Terminal’s contribution to the “major efforts
that are revitalizing Manhattan, the boroughs
